# Get started (/api/get-started)

You need a Poltura account with access to a store, and `curl`.

## Create a token [#create-a-token]

In Poltura ID, open **Account, API tokens** and create a token with the `products.read` permission for your store.
Copy the secret: it is shown once.

```bash
export POLTURA_TOKEN=pltu_...
```

## Check it [#check-it]

```bash
curl https://api.poltura.com/v1/tokens/verify -H "Authorization: Bearer $POLTURA_TOKEN"
```

The answer names the token's status, expiry and the stores it reaches. Note your store's id.

## Read the store [#read-the-store]

```bash
curl "https://api.poltura.com/v1/stores/<store id>/admin/products?limit=5" -H "Authorization: Bearer $POLTURA_TOKEN"
```

You get a JSON page of up to five products. Every response also carries the `X-Poltura-RateLimit-*` headers.
